Use TalentRiver in Claude

Connect TalentRiver to Claude and work with your recruiting workspace from a conversation: review hiring projects and candidates, start candidate searches, and manage outreach sequences.

What you can do

• Review a hiring project: pipeline stages, candidate counts and searches.

• Read candidate profiles: experience, education, skills, contact details and the project's AI scoring with its reasoning.

• Source candidates: create a hiring project, start a candidate search and refine it by answering the search's questions.

• Manage the pipeline: move candidates between stages or remove them from a project.

• Run outreach: view sequences, edit their steps, add candidates, and start or pause a sequence.

Claude works with your permissions. It sees only what your TalentRiver account can see.

Before you start

• A TalentRiver account. New to TalentRiver? Sign up at app.talentriver.ai.

• A Claude account. On Claude's Free plan you can add one custom connector.

• Some tools and data depend on your TalentRiver plan. On the Free plan, outreach sequence tools are not available, and candidate email addresses and phone numbers are hidden.

Connect TalentRiver in Claude (web, desktop and mobile)

From the connectors directory (once the listing is live)

1. In Claude, go to Customize > Connectors.

2. Find TalentRiver in the directory and click Connect.

3. Sign in to TalentRiver and allow access for Claude.

As a custom connector

Use this if TalentRiver is not in your directory yet, or if your organization adds connectors by URL.

Claude Free, Pro and Max

1. Go to Customize > Connectors.

2. Click + Add, then Add custom connector.

3. Name: TalentRiver. Server URL: https://mcp.talentriver.ai/mcp. Click Continue.

4. Keep the detected sign-in settings and click Add.

5. Click Connect, sign in to TalentRiver and allow access for Claude.

Claude Team and Enterprise

1. An Owner goes to Organization settings > Connectors, clicks Add, chooses Custom > Web, and enters the name TalentRiver and the URL https://mcp.talentriver.ai/mcp.

2. Each member then goes to Customize > Connectors, finds TalentRiver and clicks Connect.

Once connected on claude.ai, TalentRiver is also available in the Claude desktop and mobile apps.

Turn it on in a conversation

Click + at the lower left of the chat, choose Connectors, and make sure TalentRiver is switched on.

Connect TalentRiver in Claude Code

Run:

claude mcp add --transport http talentriver https://mcp.talentriver.ai/mcp

Then type /mcp in Claude Code, select talentriver and sign in to TalentRiver.

Example requests

• "Which TalentRiver account am I connected to?"

• "Show the pipeline stages and candidate counts for my Senior Backend Engineer project."

• "Create a hiring project for a Product Designer in Stockholm and start a search for people with 5+ years of Figma experience."

• "Show the five strongest candidates in that project and explain why."

• "Add those candidates to the project's outreach sequence. Ask me before you start it."

Approvals and outreach

Claude asks for your approval before it uses a TalentRiver tool, unless you chose Allow always for that tool. Tools that change data are marked as write actions in Claude: creating projects and searches, moving or removing candidates, editing sequences, adding candidates to outreach, and starting or pausing a sequence.

Starting an outreach sequence sends real messages to candidates. Keep approval on for the outreach tools.

In Research mode, Claude can use connector tools without asking for approval. Turn off TalentRiver's write tools, or the connector, before you use Research.

What data is shared

• You sign in on TalentRiver's own page. Claude never sees your TalentRiver password.

• When Claude uses a TalentRiver tool, it sends TalentRiver only that tool's request, such as a project name, search criteria or candidate IDs. TalentRiver does not receive the rest of your conversation.

• TalentRiver returns data your account can see, such as projects, searches, candidate profiles, AI scoring and sequences. That data becomes part of your Claude conversation and is handled under Anthropic's terms and your Claude plan's data settings.

• TalentRiver processes your data under its privacy policy.

Disconnect

• In Claude: go to Customize > Connectors, click the three dots next to TalentRiver (or Remove), and follow the prompts.

• For a whole Team or Enterprise organization: an Owner removes the connector in Organization settings > Connectors.

• On the TalentRiver side: to revoke Claude's access, contact support@talentriver.ai.

Troubleshooting

Claude is connected to the wrong TalentRiver account or organization. Claude connects with the TalentRiver account you are signed in to in your browser. Ask Claude "Which TalentRiver account am I connected to?". To switch, disconnect TalentRiver in Claude, sign out at app.talentriver.ai, then connect again.

A tool or a candidate's contact details are missing. These depend on your TalentRiver plan. Outreach tools and candidate email addresses and phone numbers need a paid plan.

Claude doesn't use TalentRiver. Check that the connector is switched on in the conversation (+ > Connectors) and mention TalentRiver in your request.

Claude asks you to sign in again, or shows a connection error. Go to Customize > Connectors, open TalentRiver and click Connect.
